A Message from Joanne Machado, Chair, Women Build Committee

It was another busy year of fundraising events for the Women Build Committee. The tireless work of our fabulous committee members always amazes me, and I am grateful to be working alongside them.

In May, we launched a brand new fundraising event sponsored by Qualico called What’s the Price? It was our take on the popular television game show The Price is Right. It was an incredible night where contestants played games like Yodely Guy (Cliffhanger), Plinko, Punch a Bunch, and more. It was a huge hit with attendees and will make a reappearance in 2023.

In July, we held the 13th annual Holes for Homes golf event presented by Abalon Foundation Repairs on at the beautiful Lorette Golf Course. Dark clouds loomed overhead, threatening to storm, but the weather held making it a pleasant day for the 150 golfers in attendance.

The ever-popular Handbag Bingo took place at the Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre in September. The night was full of laughter, good food, bubbly, B I N G O and gorgeous handbags, of course!

To wind up 2022, and just in time for the Holidays…. get your tickets for our Wine Raffle supported by Jones & Company Wine Merchants. Purchase your tickets today to support Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build, and for your chance to win over $1400 of WINE!

We also would not be able to accomplish our goals without the tremendous community support we receive. We are eternally grateful to Ruth Hastings for leading our Build a Future Campaign for the past nine years.

Looking to the New Year, I’m happy to announce that Women Build we will once again celebrate International Women’s Day in 2023. Stay tuned for event details coming soon.

When construction season arrives, we look forward to once again hosting a build blitz event giving volunteers an opportunity to come out and build with our partner family. Stay tuned for sign up opportunities in the New Year.

All fund raising proceeds go toward the construction of the Women Build sponsored home. Your support will help a family gain strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership.

We look forward to another successful year of Women Build and hope to see you!
