Building a New Beginning: Ayo’s Journey Home

When Ayo reflects on her journey, it’s one defined by courage, resilience, and unwavering determination. Born and raised in Nigeria, Ayo built a career in logistics, steadily advancing through hard work and commitment, but the life in Nigeria was dangerous and uncertain.

In 2022, she made the life-changing decision to begin again. Alongside her four children, Nifemi, Irebami, Ikeoluwa, and Iteoluwa, Ayo arrived in Canada, ready to embrace a future filled with hope and opportunity.

Settling in Winnipeg, the family quickly began to build their new life. Ayo’s children adapted with strength and enthusiasm, doing well in school and embracing every opportunity. Ayo’s own journey in Canada has been just as inspiring. With perseverance and focus, she completed the Health Care Aide program at a local College and earned her diploma. Today, she holds a permanent position within the industry, but she is not stopping there. Ayo is currently pursuing a university degree in Nursing, continuing to invest in her future and that of her children.

For the past several years, the family lived in a two-bedroom rental, the space has been overcrowded and costly, with issues like an unfit door driving up heating and cooling expenses. For a family of five, the living conditions have been difficult, but Ayo’s optimism never wavered.

Ayo discovered the Habitat Manitoba Homeownership Program and successfully completed all the requirements, including 500 hours of labour!

We are happy to share that Ayo and her family moved into their four-bedroom home at our Pandora Avenue West development last December. This home will provide her children with the space, comfort, and stability they deserve. For Ayo, this home is more than just a place to live. It is a foundation for long-term security, growth, and opportunity.

Ayo’s story is just one example of what’s possible when families are given the opportunity to build a brighter future, and there are many more families still waiting for that chance.Your continued support of Habitat Manitoba directly helps more local families, just like Ayo’s, build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

When construction began at the Pandora Avenue West development in 2022, it was nothing more than an empty stretch of land – dust and gravel, and the promise of a place 55 families would one day call home. Fast forward to today, you hear laughter, see children riding bikes down sidewalks, and neighbors gathering outside while kids play together. 35 families who once faced housing instability now have a safe, affordable place to come home to every day.

The Habitat Manitoba build season is officially underway, and we are working toward one of its most ambitious goals yet: finishing to build the last 15 home son Pandora and building another 16 homes in 2026 for families across the province.

Every donation helps provide the materials, volunteer support, and critical funding needed to keep construction moving forward at sites like Pandora Avenue West, and our next project on Panet Road.

If you are able, please make a gift today to help us finish the Pandora Avenue West development and build momentum at our Panet Road development.
