indigenous housing partnership

Supporting culturally grounded housing solutions with Indigenous families in Manitoba.

Access to safe and affordable housing is foundational to well being. Yet across Manitoba, many Indigenous families continue to face overcrowded housing, limited homeownership opportunities, and systemic barriers shaped by a long history of colonial policy.

At the same time, Indigenous communities across the province continue to lead powerful, community-driven solutions rooted in culture, kinship, and self-determination. Habitat for Humanity Manitoba honours these strengths. Our Indigenous Housing Partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and aligns with the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action related to housing, community development, and supporting Indigenous families.

Today, about 15% of the families who partner with Habitat Manitoba include at least one member who identifies as Indigenous. We honour these families by ensuring our path to homeownership respects cultural identity, supports family stability, and strengthens long standing connections to community.

The Indigenous Housing Partnership expands access to safe, affordable homes for Indigenous families in communities across the province.

We work closely with Indigenous governments, community leaders, and local partners to build partnerships grounded in the values and priorities of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.

Through the Indigenous Housing Partnership, we:

  • Build safe, affordable homes that support long-term family stability
  • Strengthen cultural and community ties by helping families remain closely connected to their communities
  • Provide children with safe, consistent living environments that support learning and wellbeing
  • Support parents in building long-term economic security through affordable homeownership
  • Ensure projects reflect local priorities and cultural practices through community-guided planning

These foundations create long-lasting, intergenerational impacts. Families stay rooted in community and culture, children thrive academically and socially, and communities grow stronger as families put down roots and plan for the future.

Your support makes this work possible. Together, we can help create a future where every family has the opportunity to build stability, strength, and self-determination through homeownership.
