Meet Omar and Family

Parent:
Omar
Children:
Daughter: Rehana (2015)
Son: Ahmad (2017)

Omar and his two children, Rehana and Ahmad, are navigating a new chapter in their lives as they learn to manage their world after the heartbreaking loss of Omar’s wife, Khin Khin, who passed away in October 2025. The family had originally applied to Habitat Manitoba together and were accepted into partnership as a united household. With strength and determination, Omar continued completing the family’s required partnership hours following her passing, honouring the dream that he and Khin Khin shared—to provide their children with a safe and stable place to call home.

Omar was born and raised in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, where he worked alongside his father in a chemist shop. As a Rohingya person, he lived under severe persecution, with no rights, safety, or recognition. He eventually escaped Myanmar, fleeing to Thailand for safety. It was there that he met Khin Khin. The two married and later moved to Cambodia before immigrating to Canada in 2015. They settled in Winnipeg, where they built a life together with their children.

Omar is employed full-time as a Line Worker for a large meat processing company, working hard to provide for his family. Despite his efforts, the family’s current two-bedroom apartment does not meet their needs. They do not feel safe in the neighbourhood due to high crime and vandalism, and the apartment itself is in poor condition, with many areas requiring repair.

Even in the midst of deep grief, Omar remains committed to creating a better future for Rehana and Ahmad. He continues to work tirelessly, holding on to the shared vision he and Khin Khin cherished—raising their children in a home where they feel safe, supported, and rooted.

Habitat Manitoba is honoured to partner with Omar and his family on their journey toward purchasing their first home. This home will represent more than walls and a roof; it will be the realization of a dream that both Omar and Khin Khin held closely—a place of belonging, stability, and hope for their children’s future.
Congratulations to Omar, Rehana, and Ahmad as you take this meaningful step toward building a home filled with love, security, and new beginnings.
