Building Homes. Building Hope. in 2009!

Now that the build season is well underway, our 2009 homeowners’ dreams have risen from their foundations. A home and specifically home ownership means different things to different people –our homeowners talk about homes in terms of safety, security, independence, privacy, stability, and a fresh start. Habitat homes provide hope to our partner families, and open a door to a brighter future.

Our 2009 homeowners include:

The homeowners work along side the many volunteers who help to build their home. Of the 350 hours for a single parent, or 500 hours for a dual parent family, the home owner must volunteer 100 hours towards either building their own home, or another’s home. They can build during the Pre Build, the Blitz Build, or the Post Build. The volunteers love building alongside the homeowners as it makes their Habitat experience more meaningful. They are able to develop a relationship with the family members who will benefit directly from their labour.

The Blitz Build was a high-energy exciting week. Not only are we building homes, we are increasing awareness for the need of affordable housing in our community. As eleven homes were raised on McCallum, the hopes and dreams of our families were also raised.

We congratulate all of the sponsors, donors, volunteers and homeowners for their involvement with Habitat.
