Hat's Off

Final Mortgage Payments
We often recognize the joy as new HFHW homeowners receive the keys to their home and begin the journey into homeownership!  Of course, along with the new home comes a new mortgage, and the hard-work and  dedication to pay it off.

Three longtime Habitat homeowners have a different milestone to celebrate. In March, the following families made their final mortgage payment:

Neil S. – moved in: 1993
Cheryl P.  -  moved in: 1996
Carlos and Flor H – moved in: 1996

Congratulations!

3rd Party Fundraising Events
We are thrilled when volunteers take initiative by raising money through 3rd party fundraising events.

Thank you to the following groups for helping HFHW meet our goal of building safe, decent, affordable homes for low-income working families in our community:
Mike O’Shaughnessy’s 12th annual Pool Tournament for Charity was held on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 with proceeds being donated to Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg. The tournament raised over $10,000.00!

JELD-WEN Windows & Doors coordinated a “try to beat Kerry Burtnyk’s draw to the button” competition on March 13 as part of their curling bonspiel with funds raised being donated to HFHW!

Reverend Walter R. Cowan, who has been supporting HFHW on many levels for over 15 years, has always enjoyed baking bread.  He decided to share his bread baking talent with Habitat as a means to fundraise. He began baking bread for Sunday lent and leaving it at the church with a sign asking people to donate to Habitat in exchange for a loaf. His idea snowballed and he began baking bread as part of the monthly meal at his local Men’s club. 100% of the proceeds from these meals are donated to HFHW! Habitat for Humanity thanks Reverend Cowan! His thoughtfulness and dedication to the community are truly appreciated!
