Are you up to the Challenge?

Our Adopt-a-Day Challenge gives groups of 6 to 10 individuals a great opportunity to team build while assisting us with building safe, decent, and affordable homes for low-income working families. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg is a perfect way to celebrate the milestones in an organization’s history or to build stronger employee teams, all the while effectively promoting community responsibility through association with our internationally recognized brand.

Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg’s Adopt-a-Day Challenge is a fundraising program and requires a minimum donation of $200 per person.  This donation may come from: the sponsoring company; half from the company and half from the fundraising efforts of the participants; or 100% from the fundraising efforts of the participants.

As a company committed to being involved in their community,  Cambrian Credit Union has participated in our Adopt-a-Day Challenge since 2001 and has donated over $23,000 towards our home building program!  As Jocelyne Balcaen, Cambrian Credit Union’s marketing and communications coordinator states, “The opportunity to participate in on-site builds has given our staff volunteers the opportunity to work side by side with those we are helping, and gives us the chance to see a family behind the money and time we donate. Our mission statement involves helping make our members’ dreams come true; we look forward to working with Habitat once again this year to help make other future homeowners’ dreams come true as well.”

Aside from the pride gained from making a contribution to the community and specifically to a Habitat partner family, volunteering also is a lot of fun and presents the chance to learn new skills.   “The number one reason why organizations come out to build is for the team-building aspect.  Having all participants working cooperatively to accomplish something of lasting value is great for team spirit and morale” says Kim Wilson, fund development director for Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg.

Habitat has build opportunities from April to October, but ideally we need your help after our main build - on Tuesday through Thursday, August 11-28. There are only 36 Adopt-a-Day spots, and they sell quickly. If you are interested in the Adopt-a-Day Challenge 2009 season, please don’t wait to book your spot. If your workplace is interested in purchasing an Adopt-a-Day or has any questions, please contact Kim Wilson at 233-5160 Ext. 215 or at kwilson@habitat.mb.ca.

Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg wishes to thank Cambrian and all our other Adopt-A-Day donors for their support.
