Julia Panchyshyn, Bill Haight, Shannon Glennie and
Grace Karpinsky, Chair of the Women Build Holes for Homes event.
Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg thanks everyone for their involvement through participation, volunteering, and sponsorship at the recent Holes for Homes Golf event. Taking place at the Lorette Golf course on June 4 and 5th, the forecast called for rain on both days but fortunately we remained dry! The unique golf event raised over $8,200 in support of Habitat's Women Build. A special thanks to our Title Sponsor, Qualico Developments and the Lorette Golf Course for all their support.
Manitoba Home Builders Association adds to their support of Habitat for Humanity
On May 19th, the Manitoba Home Builders Association (MHBA) held a Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg (HFHW) fundraiser at the Inn at the Forks that raised $5,000. The evening's event featured a moving and inspiring speech from Marjorie, a Habitat homeowner who spoke of her life and the difference Habitat for Humanity has made to her family. Sandy Hopkins, CEO of HFHW made a presentation about the need for affordable housing and the benefits it brings not only to Habitat families but entire communities. MBHA President Mike Moore described the nature of MHBA's lengthy relationship with Habitat to the 75-100 attendees who also enjoyed the fine cuisine and a silent auction with all proceeds going to HFHW.
Habitat appreciates the MHBA's continuing and additional support of this event as they are also a regular feature sponsor at the HFHW Cycle of Hope each year. Many thanks to MHBA and the people who generously supplied the auction items.

Air Cadet Kamal Dhillon, an enthusiastic Habitat fundraiser

Rhonda Lanouette of HFHW, graciously accepted the cheque at the St. James 17th Wing Military Base as part of the Air Cadets annual review and awards ceremony. Many thanks to Kamal and her fellow Air Cadets whose donations help support Habitat and its Women Build.
Landscaping en masse!
MPI and Standard Aero employees take a
much deserved break for a photo
Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg is very thankful for the efforts of Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) and Standard Aero. Each company sent numerous staff members to come and get their hands dirty and work up a sweat while carting and shovelling gravel and laying concrete blocks. MPI sent a whopping 120 staff members followed by Standard Aero sending over 50 employees the next day. This arduous labour is helping to finish the landscaping on the 12 McCalman Avenue homes that were built last year. It's not glamorous work but is very much appreciated by Habitat and the new homeowners!
Habitat property is growing pumpkins!
The Green team from the Point Douglas Residence Committee is growing a pumpkin patch on the vacant Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg (HFHW) property at 60 Grove Street. The team received permission from HFHW and will harvest the pumpkins and use them as part of their community feast, decorative carving and of course pumpkin pie to raise funds for Habitat as a thank you. So until we are ready to build there, pumpkins will be a growing!
