Hat's Off to You!

A thank you to Rainbow Day Nursery
The bake sale held at the Day Care Centre raised $72.00 in support of Habitat. It’s a great way to have young children become aware of the Habitat for Humanity cause as every little bit helps build more affordable homes!

Fundraising Luncheon supports Women Build
Thanks to MP Shelley Glover and US Consul Michelle Jones for organizing the “Gimme Shelter” fundraising luncheon on April 20. The guest speaker was Beth M. Feder, former legal Director of Sanctuary for Families in New York who got ‘up close and personal’ with her topic of domestic violence. Over $1500 was raised as all proceeds went in support of Habitat for Humanity Women Build.

Winnipeg’s Vern Koop receives national award from Habitat Canada
Habitat Canada has selected our own Vern Koop as the 2010 recipient of the Ken Meinert Award. This is the highest recognition bestowed by Habitat Canada and is only awarded in the years when a candidate meets the most stringent requirements. The recipient has to have demonstrated commitment and success over many years in moving Habitat’s Mission forward. This could be achieved as a volunteer or as a staff member, or in Vern’s case (as it was with Ken Meinert) in both of these capacities. Congratulations Vern!

HFHW Spirit of Winnipeg Awards Finalist
Habitat for Humanity received runner-up distinction in the not-for profit category at the inaugural Spirit of Winnipeg Awards. The event took place at the Fairmont Hotel on March 5, 2010 and honoured businesses and not-for-profit organizations that contributed to the vibrancy of our city through innovation and entrepreneurship. Eight judges narrowed down the applicants to a list of 12 finalists in four categories: Not-for-profit along with small, medium and large businesses. They were looking for how best businesses and organizations used innovation and entrepreneurship in areas of finance, marketing, cost reduction, environmental sustainability or community contribution, as well as how an organization has helped put Winnipeg on the map. Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg is proud to have received this distinction.
