Muddy Waters 100 cycling event.

The Muddy Waters 100 was started 15 years ago by a group of serious cyclists who wanted to have an organized 100 mile ride held on an annual basis. From those humble beginnings, primarily through word of mouth and providing a good experience to the riders, the number of participants has grown to approximately 225. The ride took place entirely outside the city of Winnipeg.

This year, the organizers of the Muddy Waters ride have turned to Habitat for Humanity, which has a long history of organizing cycling events with Cycle of Hope and Ride Around the Lake, to assist them to grow the event into the most important annual celebration of cycling in Manitoba. In addition to the historic “century ride” we are adding the option of two shorter rides, 100 kilometers and 60 kilometers, as well as a family Urban ride of 25 kilometers.

Thank you to everyone who participated – we had over 500 participants and raised over $26,000!

Route Information:
After checking in at 8:00am, all riders departed the Forks on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 9:00am, headed north on Main Street. From the Forks to Kildonan Park, Winnipeg Police Service provided a rolling closure of intersections, thus allowing the riders to travel unimpeded. From Kildonan Park, the longer distance cyclists traveled their selected routes, while the urban riders cycled around the park and continued along the 25K route.
